H.E.R.

The vocal gymnastics of the 1997-california-born work perfectly with her sharp sense of music that we’ve been wanting for a while for the new generation of new soul/hip-hop. It seemed to me that a fully grown and formed global level artist has emerged (since her debut in 2016 at 19 years-old), which was expected and overdue within the recent R&B wave of young artists.

The constellation of her talent, marketing, and collab’s adds to the credit and builds a strong brand.

Despite her impeccable delivery and a catchy blend of chords, I somehow regret that her jam turns out slightly déjà-vu or commercial (but, she’s at RCA). Thus I still wonder whether it is due to her talent to write and interpret universal tunes or if she is simply exploring grounds for a wider-audience reach.
Her own capsule look mixes with neat vocal runs (sometimes catching the gospel feels) on famous R&B hooks and drums – a recipe that have already long proved itself and that will certainly grow her fanbase furthermore.
Her well-deserved Grammy earlier this year win (2019) prooved she was one to watch as her musical growth and drive seems strong enough to lead her at top levels on a global scale. See below what Jackson Howard (contributor at Pitchfork) said about her back in November 2018 though:

Uneven and occasionally confounding, this is the work of an artist trying to slip from her pigeonhole style but struggling to find a viable exit. Remember how it took trial and error for the Weeknd to learn how to translate what made his 2011 trilogy of mixtapes into something with broad appeal? H.E.R., it seems, is stuck in a similar moment of creative transition.

Sharing here one live perf I really liked – set your basses low and sound up…:
