Johnny Guitar Watson

Do that thing!

This dude’s magic touched me from a very young age having my first craziest dance moves and music trips on his music with dad conducting each of these little spontaneous home shows.

The depth of his funk, instrumental melodies, soulful voice and insane sense of rhythm are the cornerstone of my music education bestowed by my father. With Watson’s priceless audio material, he taught me to hear through a song, dissect each component and how they bring harmony together to convey an emotion. Thinking back, those moments were surely a way for Dad to connect with me. I understand better now how music helps us share who we are and express complex feelings where speech can’t.

His piercing vocal signature comes with a unique imprint as soon as you listen to him: I always get giant goosebumps at the intro of The Real Deal, followed by the irresistible need to dance and sing to it.

It is still today hard to find a vocalist with such remarkable dictation. I rank him with the greatest musicians of his time next to J.Brown, M.Davis, and others.

Listen to Booty Ooty, if the melody and guitar base don’t contaminate you with its viral dance, you can close this page 🙂
